Weekly Produce Box

A weekly supply of fresh living foods + recipes & nutrition advice to help you make the most of them.

Living foods form the foundation of the Alter diet. Comprised mainly of fresh vegetables and fruits, living foods not only provide essential nutrients, water and fiber, but also (we believe) vital contact with one’s environment. Fresh, local, seasonal, organic foods nourish a healthy gastrointestinal tract and immune system; support adaptation to place(environment) and time (season); and promote greater life force/ vital energy.

Boxes will be available for pickup each Tuesday from early afternoon to evening. Each Box provides one person with a week’s supply of the best fresh fruits and vegetables that we can obtain from local farms. From week to week, we'll balance keeping a tight radius of local suppliers with providing a good variety of foods.
In this week's produce box:

Pink Lady Apples, Stemilt (Wenatchee, WA)
Menneola Tangelos, Rucker (Mecca)
Baby Bok Choy, Lakeside (Watsonville)
Golden Beets, Lakeside (Watsonville)
Escarole, Lakeside (Watsonville)
Spring Mix, Taylor (Salinas)
Garnet Sweet Potatoes, Doreva (Livingston)

These will be the last of the apples for this season.  Remember, until next fall, any apples you buy are either imported from the southern hemisphere, or have been in cold storage ("controlled atmosphere") since about now.  Never fear, citrus keeps going strong for a while longer, and local berries are starting to come in.

That's escarole in the photo - great in salad, or lightly sauteed!

New recipe:
Turkey Meatloaf

And remember these sweet potato recipes, now that we're actually having a bit of winter weather:

Sweet Potato & Sausage Soup
Sweet Potato Soup w/ Buttered Pecans
Baked Sweet Potato Fries
