1. Cut the stem of the artichoke so that it can stand on end.
  2. Stand the artichoke on the trimmed stem end in about 1/2" of simmering water.
  3. Cover and steam for about 20 minutes or until tender.
  4. Remove the outer row of leaves & discard. 
  5. Serve with a basic vinaigrette, mayonnaise, or a lemon-butter sauce.
